Luka Doncic couldn’t hide his frustration in the EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals as Germany defeated Slovenia 99-91, eliminating the Slovenian team from the tournament.

The LA Lakers star sparked controversy by making a ‘money’ gesture toward the referees after receiving his fourth personal foul in the third quarter.

The incident occurred with 7:42 minutes remaining after he fouled Dennis Schröder and quickly went viral on social media, igniting debates about refereeing fairness in the tournament.

Luka Doncic shines despite Slovenia defeat

Even in defeat, Luka Doncic shone with 39 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, demonstrating his offensive dominance despite Germany’s pressure.

Slovenia started strong, taking a 32-21 lead in the first quarter, but Germany fought back with a 24-19 second quarter, narrowing the gap to 51-45 at halftime.

The third quarter kept the tension high, with Germany cutting the lead to just four points heading into the final period.

Germany takes control with deadly three-pointers

The decisive difference came in the last quarter thanks to Germany effective three-point shooting: 37.5% compared to Slovenia 10%, with a 12-3 run that tilted the game in their favor.

Franz Wagner led the Germans with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Schröder added 20 points and seven assists.

For Slovenia, only Klemen Prepelic (13) and Gregor Hrovat (11) reached double digits, highlighting the lack of support needed to match Germany’s firepower.

With this victory, the FIBA world champions advance to the semifinals, where they will face Finland, who defeated Georgia 93-79.

Meanwhile, Luka Doncic finished the tournament as EuroBasket 2025’s top scorer, averaging 34.7 points per game, while also ranking highly in assists and steals, cementing his status as one of the most complete stars of the competition.

What’s next for Doncic and Slovenia

Luka Doncic will now return to the Los Angeles Lakers to prepare for the upcoming NBA season, where he will take on a central role alongside LeBron James.

Despite the elimination, Slovenia is set to proudly host EuroBasket 2029 alongside Estonia, Greece, and Spain, securing automatic qualification to the final stage without going through the preliminary rounds.
