Stephanie White experienced one of the most emotional moments of her coaching career during the Fever latest playoff game.

The sudden absence of her top scorer, Kelsey Mitchell, shook not only her team but the entire WNBA, leaving White struggling to maintain composure while trying to guide her players.

The blow of the injury and Stephanie White reaction

When Kelsey Mitchell had to leave the game midway through the third quarter due to a lower-body cramp, Stephanie White tried to stay calm and motivate her team.

“Again, we’ve been in this situation before, right? We have to play for our teammate. We have to fight for our teammate,” White said, conveying strength despite her concern for her star player.

However, at the end of the game, after a 107-98 loss to the Aces, the coach could no longer hide her emotions.

During the post-game press conference, Stephanie White tearfully revealed that Mitchell was receiving fluids at the hospital and praised the dedication of her players.

“Unfortunately, we have a lot of experience supporting our teammates, and you know this group is pure heart. It’s really hard to describe in words. They are simply… special.”

The impact of Mitchell’s injury was immediate. After she fell, the team surrounded the star with towels while medical staff stretched her leg.

Stephanie White stayed by her side, ensuring she felt supported as she was taken to the locker room, while the crowd and opposing players like A’ja Wilson cheered her on.

Leadership and resilience under pressure

Despite the absence of her top scorer, Stephanie White did not let adversity paralyze her team. She urged the remaining players to stay focused and fight with everything they had.

“We have to play for our teammates. No one is in a better position than us to do this… we have to honor it in everything we do,” White insisted, highlighting the importance of resilience in critical moments.

Her leadership helped the Fever push the game into overtime, although the Aces ultimately prevailed.

Stephanie White reaction shows that even the most experienced coaches can be moved by the vulnerability of their key players.
