A’ja Wilson highlights Jackie Young’s evolution and hints at her WNBA MVP ambitions
During the playoffs, Jackie Young has shone with an average of 20.6 points per game, totaling 206 points so far.
Her performance in Game 5 against the Fever was historic: 32 points, 10 assists, and flawless ball control over 44 minutes of play.
Alongside A’ja Wilson, Young became part of the first duo in WNBA playoff history to each score at least 30 points in the same game.

Wilson has closely observed how Young has developed her court vision and three-point shooting, becoming one of the most complete point guards in the league.
“I remember young Jackie when Bill Laimbeer told her she would play point guard, and she just seemed to say, ‘I’ve never played point in my life, but okay, let’s try it professionally.’ And now here you are, seventh year, facilitating the game in every way,” A’ja Wilson said.
A legacy in the making
A’ja Wilson has also acknowledged that Young journey hasn’t been easy. Selected first in the 2019 Draft, Young didn’t win Rookie of the Year and faced doubts about her role.
However, her perseverance and growth earned her the Most Improved Player award in 2022 and her first All-Star nomination.
This year, under Wilson guidance, Jackie Young has taken on more responsibilities, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, while recording the first triple-doubles of her career.
A’ja Wilson not only celebrates Young achievements but also emphasizes the impact she will have in the championship race.
