For many, the retirement of Tom Brady after more than two decades of NFL dominance marked the close of an era. But for the seven-time Super Bowl champion, it was the beginning of a new chapter—trading sideline huddles for broadcast scripts. The football icon is now one of Fox Sports’ star commentators.

Although the early days of the ex-MVP’s television debut were met with high expectations. And a fair dose of skepticism. Tom Brady ended his first season with a flurry of praise, especially for his insight and delivery during the Super Bowl.

A lucrative deal

Backed by a jaw-dropping $375 million contract over 10 years, Tom Brady joined seasoned broadcaster Kevin Burkhardt in the booth. His first outings felt reserved, even stiff at times. As if the former quarterback was still adjusting to the rhythm of live television.

Yet as the season progressed, Tom Brady’s commentary became more fluid, his dynamic with Burkhardt more organic, and his comfort level more obvious. The highlight came during Super Bowl LIX, when the Eagles dominated the Chiefs 40–22. The ex of Gisele Bündchen  provided layered analysis from the vantage point of someone who’s lived the pressure—more than anyone else.

A whole new challenge

Far from chasing the spotlight, Tom Brady has acknowledged the challenge of trading the gridiron for production cables and teleprompters. He’s also shared how becoming part of a broadcast team has motivated him to evolve in this new media role.

Meanwhile, as the ex-New England Patriot finds his voice behind the mic, Fox Sports finds itself at a crossroads. The departure of NFL legends like Jimmy Johnson and the potential retirement of Terry Bradshaw opens the door to a younger generation of analysts. According to Marca, the network won’t broadcast another Super Bowl until 2029. Giving Tom Brady—now more commentator than quarterback—time to grow into a leadership role in Fox’s next era.
