Patrick Mahomes, star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, apparently delivered a veiled critique of coach Andy Reid during the pregame press conference ahead of Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts.

While the quarterback praised Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, his comments seemed like a subtle jab at Reid play-calling, which has shown inconsistencies in recent games.

Patrick Mahomes praise for Anarumo raises suspicions

Patrick Mahomes stated, “Coach Anarumo is a great defensive coordinator, a great coach, he adapts his strategies to the team around him.”

Although his words focused on highlighting the rival’s flexibility, many analysts interpreted the comparison as an indirect criticism of Reid more rigid style.

With a 5-5 record heading into Sunday’s game, the Chiefs have faced offensive struggles, including receivers having issues with man coverage and an inconsistent running game.

Patrick Mahomes has been the focal point, completing 29 of 45 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the recent loss to the Denver Broncos.

The quarterback also totals 2,625 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns this season, along with 288 rushing yards and four rushing scores, although six interceptions and 20 sacks highlight the challenges facing his offense.

Crisis in Kansas City? Comparisons to the Brady era

Patrick Mahomes has seen other teams start to lose the fear that the Chiefs once commanded.

Damien Woody, former Patriots lineman, compared Kansas City situation to the end of the Tom Brady era: “I think the aura of Kansas City is gone… these teams are thinking: to hell with Kansas City!”

This season, the struggles of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs reflect not only tactical difficulties but also growing tension in team leadership.

Reid passing offense ranks fifth, averaging 248.9 yards and 18 passing touchdowns, while the rushing attack sits at 16th.

Patrick Mahomes, with his talent and experience, remains key to turning things around, but his recent statements and the Chiefs inconsistent performance have sparked debate over whether his relationship with Andy Reid might be showing cracks.
