Patrick Mahomes has responded to comments made by Buffalo Bills rookie Maxwell Hairston, who, after the Kansas City Chiefs 28-21 loss in Week 9, suggested that Xavier Worthy’s tendencies had revealed some of the team’s plays.

Hairston’s observation caused a stir in the NFL, and Mahomes chose to address the matter with his characteristic pragmatic approach.

Patrick Mahomes defends his team

During the postgame press conference, Hairston explained how he identified specific movements from Worthy during plays, claiming they were “signals” that could be exploited. Patrick Mahomes acknowledged the rookie’s words but downplayed their impact.

“I didn’t necessarily see it. I mean, obviously, if he said it, it’s because he saw something,” Mahomes explained. “But we’ll improve in that area. I appreciate the information so we can get better as the season progresses.”

The Chiefs quarterback made it clear that his focus is on learning from every situation rather than getting caught up in external controversies.

Xavier Worthy, the receiver in question, also responded firmly, stating that Hairston’s observations were incorrect and that he remains focused on the game.

Assessing Patrick Mahomes performance

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are currently third in the AFC West with a 5-4 record. And pressure is mounting ahead of their next matchup against division leaders, the Denver Broncos.

Through nine games, Mahomes has completed 204 of 316 passes with a 64.6% completion rate. Totaling 2,349 passing yards and 17 touchdowns, along with 285 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

During the loss to the Bills, Patrick Mahomes threw for 250 yards, one interception, and was sacked three times, a performance that underscores that, despite criticism. He remains the undisputed leader of Kansas City offense.

Last season, the Chiefs reached Super Bowl LIX but were defeated by the Eagles. This year, Mahomes aims to prove that they can return to the top of the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes remains focused on leading his team, responding to every challenge on the field, and demonstrating that. Despite theories about Xavier Worthy’s alleged signals, his leadership and talent will continue to be the backbone of the Chiefs.
