Caleb Williams: A challenging start, but signs of greatness
However, few considered the importance of the offensive line, ranked 17th in efficiency, which left Williams exposed to 68 sacks—the highest in the league by a wide margin.
Despite these challenges, Caleb Williams had completed 351 of 562 passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only 6 interceptions.
His resilience became evident when Ben Johnson took over as head coach. Even after early losses, Williams showcased his true potential by throwing four touchdowns with a 150.30 passer rating in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, leading the Bears to a streak of consecutive wins.

A record within reach and history looming
According to StatMuse, Caleb Williams set a milestone no Bears quarterback had achieved before: throwing for at least 200 yards and one touchdown in each of his first five games with the franchise.
If he maintains this pace, Mike Florio of NBC Sports projects that he will finish the season with 4,008 yards, averaging 235.8 per game.
The previous single-season passing record is often attributed to Jay Cutler with 3,812 yards in 2014, but in reality, Erik Kramer leads with 3,838 yards in 1995.
Caleb Williams is closing in on this historic mark—a feat that would not only cement his name among the Bears’ greats but also rewrite the narrative of a young quarterback who defied low expectations.
With every pass, every touchdown, and every additional yard, Caleb Williams proves he is more than ready to leave an indelible mark on Chicago.
