The decision wasn’t made overnight. “We just went through the whole process. In the end, it was unanimous. It wasn’t something decided in a day. We had already discussed it,” Schottenheimer explained regarding Parsons trade.

He emphasized that the move stemmed from a thorough roster analysis and the opportunity to strengthen multiple key positions with the assets acquired.

The trade, which involved Parsons and brought defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks to Dallas. Not only reshapes the team’s defense but also affects internal team dynamics.

Kenny Clark and the rebuilding strategy

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones also commented on the deal, stressing the value of the return they received for Parsons.

According to Jones, there was a verbal agreement with the All-Pro linebacker that was later modified by his agent. Which accelerated the team’s decision.

Brian Schottenheimer pointed out that adding Kenny Clark represents a major boost to the defensive line. “We’re certainly excited about bringing in Kenny Clark. He’s very disruptive inside. At the end of the day, we’ll have to maximize the picks we have, and that will obviously be the plan.”

With this statement, Brian Schottenheimer confirms that the team made a measured, unanimous decision focused on its future. Making it clear that Parsons exit was a calculated move within a long-term plan rather than an impulsive choice.
