Andy Reid was once again in the spotlight following the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing 22-19 loss to the Denver Broncos, a result that leaves the team with a 5-5 record and in third place in the AFC West.

The coach hinted that issues in the running game could be the key to the Chiefs’ inconsistent offense, sparking intrigue about the adjustments he will need to make to get the team back on track.

Dependence on run-pass options and the challenges of the running game

Andy Reid spoke candidly about the limited effectiveness of the ground attack. Suggesting that an overreliance on run-pass option plays might be holding the team back.

“We’re using quite a few run-pass option plays. Yesterday we were given opportunities to throw the ball, and we took advantage of them. In the end, those plays were just as effective as a run,” Reid stated, making it clear that modern strategies can complicate defensive reads.

The Chiefs attempted just 14 rushes against Denver, while Patrick Mahomes threw 45 passes. Completing 29 for 276 yards and a touchdown.

Despite Mahomes’ solid performance, the struggles in the running game keep Reid and his coaching staff on alert.

“The runs are being called, it’s just that sometimes in today’s game they turn into passes. So we’re practicing them, and we have some tough runs where you just get up, line up, and go. We’ll probably call more of those,” Reid added, emphasizing the urgency of balancing the offense.

Andy Reid was also asked about the Chiefs’ playoff chances following the loss to the Broncos.

Although the team is in a challenging situation, Reid does not rule out the possibility of redemption.

“We’re not as negative as the outside world. We know what we need to clean up and we have to make sure we fix it now. These guys have had pretty good seasons, and this one is not lost,” Reid commented, signaling that his confidence in the players remains intact.
