Shaquille O’Neal, the NBA legend and iconic pop culture figure, is ready to step back into the ring. At 52 years old, the four-time Los Angeles Lakers champion has accepted the challenge from Charles “Charlie Mack” Alston, former bodyguard of actor Will Smith, reigniting a dispute that began years ago at a public event.

The story behind the matchup goes back to an autograph line in Dallas. According to Alston, Shaquille O’Neal tried to cut in, prompting the former bodyguard to strike him in the neck.

“You gave me a good shot to the neck, Charlie Mack. That’s why I talk so funny,” Shaq joked on Instagram when announcing the fight, adding in his signature style: “It’s time for revenge. You say the time and place, I’ll be there. Diesel doesn’t run from anyone.”

This matchup will be overseen by Celebrity Boxing, the promoter specializing in celebrity bouts, and although no date has been set, it has already captured the attention of boxing and entertainment fans alike.

Shaq and his previous ring experience

Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to the boxing world. The former center has previously stepped into the ring for two exhibition fights against Sugar Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya.

Although both bouts ended in defeat, they showcased his willingness to push beyond basketball and explore new forms of entertainment.

His return against Charlie Mack promises to combine the thrill of sport with Shaq’s trademark showmanship, ensuring an event no fan will want to miss.

Beyond the ring: Shaq and entertainment at Hersheypark

While preparing for the rematch, Shaquille O’Neal is also expanding his presence in the entertainment world. Hersheypark announced a collaboration with Shaq for their Halloween and Dark Nights experience, running from September 12 to November 2.

The indoor roller coaster Laff Trakk will be transformed into the Shaq-A-Licious Laff Trakk, inspired by O’Neal’s popular Shaq-A-Licious XL Gummies, created in partnership with The Hershey Company.

“We took the flavor and fun of my Shaq-A-Licious XL Gummies and turned it into a colossal adventure,” Shaq explained.

“From the moment you step in, this attraction fills you with energy and nonstop laughter.” This partnership demonstrates that O’Neal continues to be a leading figure in entertainment, both inside and outside the ring.
