Now that Luka Doncic has signed his contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, he’s not holding back about his expectations. He sent a clear message to the front office about what he needs to leave a lasting legacy on the team and the wider community.

The Slovenian star is driven by a hunger for success and achievements—he’s not in Los Angeles just to have fun. He chose to stay because he wants to win championships and add historic milestones to the franchise. That’s exactly why he signed a three-year deal worth $165 million.

A statement move for the Los Angeles Lakers

According to Firstsportz, in an interview with ESPN, the Lakers star said: “I don’t want to wait, I tasted the Finals. I’m going back there. So let’s do whatever we can now.”

After his trade from the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic experienced the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit. Now, he’s determined to change that outcome in the upcoming NBA season—and he’s going all in.

One clear sign of Doncic’s commitment to the team is his recent physical transformation. He’s clearly training hard and getting ready to work alongside DeAndre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia. His goal? To win the 2026 NBA championship.

Speaking about his teammates, the Slovenian stated:
“We have what we need to compete for a championship. I’ll try to win every game no matter what, and we’ve got some great new guys on the team, so you know we’re going for it.”

This makes it crystal clear—Doncic is not sugarcoating anything, and he’s pulling his teammates with him toward one goal.
