Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Lakers completed a major three-team trade. Anthony Davis was sent to the Dallas Mavericks, and Luka Dončić went to Los Angeles. This information was revealed by ESPN journalist and NBA insider Shams Charania shortly after midnight (Eastern Time) through his social media accounts. But, did LeBron James know about this trade?

On X, Charania wrote: “The Dallas Mavericks are sending Luka Dončić, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick, sources told ESPN. The three-team deal also involves Utah.”

How did LeBron James find out about the decision?

Apparently, this revelation took LeBron James by surprise, despite his usual involvement in Lakers’ decision-making. In fact, according to an ESPN report by Dave McMenamin, “LeBron James learned about the Davis-Doncic trade after the Knicks game when the news broke while he was heading out for dinner with his family, sources close to James told ESPN. James was shocked, still processing it, and had no idea it was in the works.” This was expected, as Anthony Davis had been his teammate and close friend for five and a half years.

From now on, James will form a new duo with Doncic, whom he considers his favorite player in the NBA. The NBA champion from last season is expected to make his debut with the Lakers next Saturday when the team hosts the Indiana Pacers, or on Monday night against the Utah Jazz.
