Lamar Jackson made headlines again, but not for his talent on the field, instead, for a tribute that was overshadowed by a tough loss.

Before the game against the Detroit Lions, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback wore a jersey honoring Kobe Bryant legendary 81-point performance, generating high expectations among fans and on social media.

A tribute that didn’t translate into victory

Despite the gesture, Lamar Jackson couldn’t meet expectations. The Lions’ defensive pressure led to him being sacked seven times. Contributing to a 38-31 loss and leaving the Ravens with a 1-2 record to start the season.

Fans’ frustration was immediately evident on Instagram and Twitter, with critical comments and jokes comparing his stats to Bryant historic night.

Admiration for Kobe and Lamar Jackson quest for his first Super Bowl

Lamar Jackson relationship with Kobe Bryant goes beyond jerseys and tributes. Since 2020, Jackson has publicly acknowledged the influence of the late Lakers star. Placing him alongside Michael Jordan and LeBron James as one of the greatest players of all time.

During his first Pro Bowl, Jackson fondly recalled receiving an autographed jersey and the inspiration Kobe provided for his professional growth.

While Bryant retired with five NBA championships, Lamar Jackson continues pursuing his first Super Bowl title with the Ravens. After losing to Detroit, the quarterback will face a crucial matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, with analysts scrutinizing every play.

Expectations are high, and the challenge is twofold: to honor legends while ensuring history doesn’t leave him behind.
