A former player who spent 18 years in the NBA and earned $118 million appears to have mismanaged his wealth. In fact, things got so bad that he has now declared bankruptcy.

Many NBA players earn huge sums during their careers, though few stay in the league for more than 20 years. As a result, many struggle financially after retiring. That seems to be the case for this former Los Angeles Lakers champion.

A tough situation for the ex-player

According to Bolavip, CourtSideHeat reported that Trevor Ariza filed for bankruptcy. He also requested a reduction in child support payments, which are currently $24,000 per month. In addition, he must pay $4,000 in spousal support, as determined by the court following his 2024 divorce.

Ariza claims he has been unemployed since 2022 and that his bank account is overdrawn, with $230,000 in debt. The former NBA player hasn’t managed to build a professional career after leaving the league.

However, his net worth is reportedly still $8 million. Even so, his income is not enough to meet his monthly financial obligations of $28,000.

His divorce was the first major blow to his finances, and it seems he hasn’t recovered, according to RadarOnline. His best option now is to declare bankruptcy to avoid accumulating even more unpayable debt.

Sadly, this former NBA star is watching his entire fortune disappear, and it may be very difficult for him to bounce back.
