Bronny James returned to the G League with a performance that raised more questions than answers, fueling intrigue about his true ceiling as a developing point guard.

His comeback with the South Bay Lakers not only showed growth, but also signs that he may be regaining the confidence he seemed to lose in the NBA.

Bronny James and a return that invites a closer look

After a brief stint with the Lakers, Bronny James was back in action with South Bay at the UCLA Health and Training Center, where they faced the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Alongside Adou Thiero and Drew Timme, two key pieces in the development project, Bronny drew attention from the start, including that of head coach JJ Redick, who was present to evaluate his emerging talents.

The first quarter offered glimpses of his growing maturity: five points, two assists, and one turnover, contributing to his team’s 28–20 lead.

In the second period, Bronny James expanded his impact with five more points, three assists, and two rebounds, showing calmer decision-making and stronger control of the game’s tempo.

His performance continued to rise in the third quarter, where he produced another offensive burst, three points, two assists, one rebound, and a steal.

Although the final quarter was quieter, the South Bay Lakers were already cruising toward a commanding 115–95 victory.

Bronny James and the challenge of bringing this version to the NBA

The final stat line was attention-worthy, Bronny James finished with 15 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals, shooting a solid 50% from the field.

A well-rounded performance that deepens the intrigue around why his NBA version remains so different.

With the Los Angeles Lakers, his numbers have been far more modest: 2.1 points and 1.8 assists in 10 games, shooting just 29.6% from the field.

At times, when he misses his first few shots, Bronny James tends to disappear offensively, losing aggressiveness and slowing down the Lakers’ attack.
