The tense conflict between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Oscar de la Hoya remains one of the hottest rivalries in the boxing world. After the breakdown of their professional relationship, both take every opportunity to throw jabs at each other.
>Canelo accused De La Hoya of fraud and called him “scum,” leaving a lingering resentment that never reached a legal resolution. As Canelo nears the end of his career, the animosity continues, especially with the decisions about his future in the ring.

Why not Benavidez? Oscar de la Hoya question to Canelo Álvarez

At 34 years old, Canelo Álvarez seems to be taking a different path in his career. He recently signed a historic deal with the Arab promoter Turki Alalshikh for around $400 million. Which includes five fights, the first of which will be against Cuban William Scull in May. Followed by the much-anticipated Terence Crawford fight in September.

However, Oscar de la Hoya knows that one fight has been on every fan’s mind and can’t be avoided—David Benavidez.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, De la Hoya didn’t hesitate to question Canelo’s decisions. Especially his choice of Scull as an opponent.

With an incredulous tone, De la Hoya expressed his surprise at Canelo’s refusal to fight Benavidez, a match everyone wants to see.
“I keep scratching my head, what are you doing? That’s all I do all night. Canelo, what are you doing?” said the promoter, adding a strong reflection: “In 10 or 15 years, we’ll be saying. ‘Did you avoid Benavidez or did you give us the big fights with Benavidez?’”
Oscar de la Hoya question still hangs in the air: will Canelo opt for the fights the world wants to see, or will he hide from Benavidez?
