Carlos Alcaraz reveals his family side: his parents are still in charge, even though he is a tennis superstar

Carlos Alcaraz confesses that, despite being a global tennis sensation, at home he is still just another son who follows his parents’ rules.

The young Spaniard, ATP world No. 1 and winner of six Grand Slam titles at 22, revealed in an interview with ABC Sports that his home in El Palmar, Murcia, is a place where his superstar status takes a back seat.

Carlos Alcaraz explained that his parents, Carlos Alcaraz González and Virginia Garfia Escandón, still enforce strict rules for his daily life.

“When I get home, I’m still the same Carlos as always. Not the tennis player, not the No. 1, not any of that. I’m the same as always,” he said.

He also admitted that even today, his parents scold him if he arrives late or doesn’t follow instructions.

“Until that moment it’s fine, but they do tell me: ‘don’t be late,’ do this, do that. And when I don’t listen, which happens often, that’s when they scold me, and they still do, obviously,” he added.

This family approach shows that, despite his fame, Carlos Alcaraz continues to learn from the discipline instilled by his parents, reminding him that life beyond the court also requires responsibility and respect.

Beyond the Grand Slams: the home of Carlos Alcaraz

After winning his second Wimbledon title in 2024, Carlos Alcaraz confessed that he preferred to celebrate with his family in Murcia rather than traveling to Ibiza, his usual destination for celebrations.

“As soon as I enter the house, I’m subject to my parents’ rules. It doesn’t matter if I’ve won two Grand Slams or fifteen. They’re the ones in charge, and I think that’s the beauty of it. Once I’m home, I forget about tennis and I’m still the same person as always,” he stated.

Currently, Carlos Alcaraz is focusing on the year-end ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, where he has already earned two wins in the group stage.
