Two phenoms chasing victory
Both players are off to stellar starts this season. Luka Doncic, despite missing games due to a left leg injury, is averaging 41.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in the four games he’s played. Victor Wembanyama, meanwhile, is putting up 26.7 points, 13.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 4.7 blocks, shooting 52.7% from the field. These are elite numbers on both ends of the court.
Victor Wembanyama on playing Luka Doncic
“Luka is one of the hardest players to scout, because he understands and masters the game more than anyone else. I don’t think I’ve ever won against him.”

The Frenchman has publicly praised Luka Doncic, calling him “one of the hardest players to analyze” because of his deep understanding of the game. And the stats support that view: in their previous matchups, Doncic has averaged a triple-double against the Spurs—26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 10.5 assists. Victor Wembanyama, in contrast, has posted more modest numbers: 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
High tension
The game’s context adds even more drama. The Spurs will be without rookie standout Dylan Harper, while the Lakers are missing LeBron James and likely Austin Reaves, who’s dealing with a groin issue. That leaves Victor Wembanyama and Doncic as the undisputed stars of a night that could shape the MVP race, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also in the mix.
Victor Wembanyama knows he can’t keep losing to Luka Doncic. The stage is set, the stats are elite, and the rivalry is real. Tonight in Los Angeles, the Frenchman will try to flip the narrative and prove he’s ready to dominate in head-to-head battles too.
