Luka Doncic made a massive return to action after missing two games due to a finger injury and a leg bruise. The Slovenian star came back to lead the Lakers in their NBA Cup debut with a spectacular performance — 44 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists in a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Far from showing any rust, Doncic dominated from the opening quarter, proving that his short absence had no impact on his rhythm or confidence. He was the driving force behind Los Angeles’ comeback in Tennessee, delivering one of the most complete performances of the season.

A historic start

According to Mundo Deportivo, Doncic’s numbers early in the season are nothing short of extraordinary. With three straight games over 40 points, he joined Wilt Chamberlain as the only players ever to start a season with such a streak. He also became the first Laker since Kobe Bryant in 2007 to record three consecutive 40-point games.

But his influence extends even further. Averaging 45.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 7.7 assists, Doncic not only leads the Lakers offensively but also positions himself firmly in the MVP race. His incredible consistency places him in an elite group with Michael Jordan and Chamberlain, the only players to surpass 125 points in the first three games of a season.

Doncic’s offensive control, combined with a remarkable 52% shooting accuracy, highlights his best physical and mental form since joining Los Angeles. While LeBron James continues recovering from back issues, the Lakers seem to have found stability and leadership in their young star. The team currently holds a 4–2 record, a promising sign for the campaign ahead.

Meanwhile, Austin Reaves, who shined in Doncic’s absence, now complements him perfectly on the perimeter. Together, they create a more balanced and explosive offense. If Doncic stays healthy, the Lakers could be heading toward a memorable and historic season.
