Cooper Flagg finally made his highly anticipated NBA debut with the Dallas Mavericks during the first game of the 2025/2026 season against the San Antonio Spurs.

Although the Mavs fell 95-125, Flagg showcased clear signs of his talent and ability to compete at the highest level.

The number one draft pick closed the game with a double-double: 10 points and 10 rebounds, marking a historic milestone for such a young rookie.

Cooper Flagg shines and faces challenges in his Mavericks debut

At just 18 years old, Cooper Flagg became the youngest player in the NBA this season. He displayed flashes of his potential with smooth rebounds and active presence under the rim, though he also showed the typical struggles of a rookie adjusting to the pace and physicality of professional basketball.

His debut serves as a reminder that transitioning to the elite level requires patience and continuous learning.

A promising start for Cooper Flagg amid challenges and growth

During the first half, Cooper Flagg did not score, finishing the game with 4-of-13 shooting, three turnovers, and 32 minutes on the court.

Even so, his double-double places him in a select group of Mavericks players who have achieved that mark in their debut, signaling his ability to impact both ends of the floor.

Coach Jason Kidd offered a measured assessment: “As a rookie, he did well, no one in this room is in their place. We’ll learn and be better next time.”

Flagg himself acknowledged the need for improvement: “It wasn’t great, obviously we didn’t play incredibly well, but we have to get past it, move on.”

Cooper Flagg performance reflects the duality of a debut: brilliant moments of effort and positioning combined with scoring inexperience that is natural for a player of his age and talent.

The pressure is high, the expectations enormous, yet the young Mavericks rookie has shown he can handle it and grow as the season progresses.

His first game confirms something essential: Cooper Flagg is not only the future of Dallas, but his development and adaptation to the NBA will be key in determining the Mavericks’ impact in the Western Conference.
