Arch Manning, Texas quarterback, quickly took responsibility following the Longhorns decisive 38-7 victory over San José State in Week 2.

In an Instagram post and during his media availability, Manning admitted that he needs to “step up” to strengthen his leadership within the team. Especially ahead of the upcoming matchup against UTEP.

The young quarterback completed 19 of 30 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns. But his only interception ended with a 41-yard return by SDSU’s Jalen Apalit-Williams.

Despite the dominant scoreline, Arch Manning acknowledged that leadership isn’t measured solely by statistics, but by the ability to make critical decisions at key moments.

Focus and discipline: What Steve Sarkisian wants

Although the offensive performance was strong, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian expressed concern over the 12 penalties the Longhorns incurred against San José State.

“That means there were major mistakes, and they happened in all three phases. It was quite widespread, which made me think, where was our mental intensity? Where was our focus?” Sarkisian questioned during the press conference.

Texas has repeatedly shown a lack of discipline, committing six penalties for 50 yards against Ohio State and racking up 115 yards, In flags during the victory over San José State.

Sarkisian highlighted second-year defender Colin Simmons, who committed five of the team’s penalties in Week 2, and stressed the need for greater awareness and focus from his players.

The team aims to fine-tune discipline and leadership before facing UTEP this Saturday. Seeking their second consecutive win after the Week 1 loss to Ohio State.

Arch Manning, with his determination to lead from within, will be key in maintaining an efficient offense as the Longhorns aim to establish themselves as national championship contenders.
