Andy Reid faces a challenging start to the week for the Kansas City Chiefs. After a tough preseason loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the coach confirmed that five players, including rookie Nohl Williams, suffered injuries.

Although preseason bumps and bruises are not unusual, with only weeks remaining before the regular season begins, the Chiefs cannot afford to lose key players.

Andy Reid plans the return of starters after Chiefs defeat

The good news for fans is that the starters could return to the field soon. Andy Reid hinted that stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will get playing time in the next preseason game.

With the goal of improving after last season’s Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Reid is balancing caution with preparation, ensuring that his top players get enough repetitions before the official season kickoff.

“The starters will get some time against the Bears,” said Andy Reid during the radio broadcast, reaffirming his plan to give strategic minutes to key players.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks defeated Kansas City 33-16, thanks to a solid performance by Sam Darnold, while Seattle’s defense held the Chiefs reserves mostly in check during the second half.

Mahomes wait and Andy Reid strategy

The first preseason game left fans wanting more. Patrick Mahomes participated in only three plays, including a one-yard touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee, and expressed his disappointment on the Up And Adams Show about not getting more action.

However, Mahomes appreciated that the team forced an early turnover, scored a touchdown, and came out mostly healthy.

“Hopefully after this week. I always let coach Andy Reid make the decisions, but I’ll be on the field at some point this preseason and hope to get a couple more series,” Mahomes said.

This statement shows the quarterback’s trust in Andy Reid to manage the recovery and pacing of his star players.

Injuries and key adjustments

As the preseason progresses, Andy Reid faces the challenge of keeping his players safe while fine-tuning the team’s offense.

The combination of controlled minutes for Mahomes and Kelce, along with careful injury management, will be crucial for the Chiefs to start the regular season strong.
