A player with eye-popping numbers
Even with four games missed due to ankle issues, Micah Parsons wrapped up last season with 12 sacks and 43 tackles. His pressure rate stands at 20.2%, and he’s maintained a grade above 91.6 in every season. That makes Parsons one of the most effective pass rushers since entering the league.
Things got trickier after TJ Watt signed his new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, locking in $41 million annually and becoming the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Micah Parsons, younger and ranked higher, seems poised to eclipse that figure.
Salary cap situation
The Cowboys currently have just over $32 million in cap space. In fact, extending Micah Parsons could actually help them restructure future financial commitments. Still, Dallas has a history of dragging its feet — and paying the price later. They did it with Dak Prescott. They felt it with DeMarcus Lawrence. And now, they risk repeating the pattern.

Micah Parsons has been upfront. He wants to stay in Dallas. But if the team doesn’t get serious, he’s ready to explore his options. “If they don’t want me, I get it. I’ll do my job while I’m here,” Parsons said in a recent interview.
The question isn’t whether Micah Parsons is worth the payday — it’s how long the Cowboys will wait to act. Because if they stall another season and Parsons continues upping his stats — as he does year after year — the price will rise… and Texas might no longer be part of the plan.
