The biggest absence in the debut of the “California Classic” was Bronny James, son of superstar LeBron James.

Even though the NBA has kicked off on the West Coast with the start of preseason, all eyes were on the Los Angeles Lakers.

Although Bronny attended the matchup against the Golden State Warriors, he did so in street clothes, never setting foot on the court.

Bronny James raises questions at the start of preseason: strategy or farewell?

The starting lineup made his absence clear: Dalton Knecht, Cole Swider, Trey Jemison III, DaJuan Gordon, and DJ Steward opened the game.

The news quickly sparked reactions. While some attributed it to a development strategy, others fear it could signal something bigger. Is Bronny James planning a departure from the Lakers?

It’s worth noting that last season, Bronny James played 27 games, only one as a starter, averaging 2.3 points per game with low shooting percentages, 31.3% from the field and 28.1% from three.

However, he shined in the G League, averaging 18.6 points, 4.8 assists, and nearly 5 rebounds per game.

An absence that raises more questions than answers

For many fans, Bronny James absence from the Summer League is puzzling. “It’s unbelievable that Bronny isn’t playing, as if he averaged 20 points in the NBA,” one fan wrote on social media.

Speculation hasn’t stopped. Is he injured? Is it a coaching decision? Or is a team change on the horizon?

For now, the young shooting guard remains focused on his development. According to a statement to the Los Angeles Times, he’s excited to approach this new season with less pressure and more confidence.

“This year I can go out and play freely. I don’t have those nerves anymore. I know what I can bring to the table.”

The Lakers prepare for their next challenge in Las Vegas

After the California Classic games, the Lakers will head to Las Vegas to face the Dallas Mavericks and their star rookie, Cooper Flagg, in the highly anticipated NBA Summer League. Everyone’s hoping Bronny James will finally hit the court and put the mystery to rest.

In the meantime, his absence continues to fuel rumors. Is Bronny James saving his best for later or preparing a quiet exit?
