Damone Clark of the Dallas Cowboys has proven to be a player of exceptional character. During his time at LSU, he was honored with the prestigious No. 18 jersey. Awarded to those who embody the highest values on and off the field.

His NFL journey began with a major challenge—a spinal MRI at the NFL Scouting Combine, revealed a herniated disc that required spinal fusion surgery. Despite this, the Dallas Cowboys took a chance on him in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft.

Clark worked tirelessly to recover, and by 2023, he had secured a starting role in the Cowboys’ defense. However, what once seemed like a promising path is now filled with uncertainty.

The uncertain future of Damone Clark—an inevitable cut?

With NFL free agency approaching and the Cowboys looking to maximize their financial flexibility—potentially, reaching $100 million in cap space—every move matters. And that puts Damone Clark in a precarious position.

This year, keeping him would cost $3.3 million, but if the Cowboys decide to cut him. They would only take a minimal $60,000 dead money hit—an insignificant amount in financial terms.

His role on the team has also shifted; last season, he lost his starting position and played primarily on special teams.

Additionally, the Cowboys have other linebacker options. While DeMarvion Overshown will miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season, he remains part of the team’s long-term plans.

The team also has faith in Marist Liufau and could reinforce the linebacker corps with free agents like Nick Bolton or Dre Greenlaw. Sspecially if new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus pushes to invest in the position.

Resilience and determination have defined Damone Clark journey. But a $3.3 million financial decision could shape the next chapter of his career.
