The battle for the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft is heating up more than ever, and Cooper Flagg seemed to be the undeniable choice—until now. The young Duke star has made a massive impact in his freshman season, putting up stats that back up his case for the top spot.
Averaging 19.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, Flagg has established himself as a dominant force on the court. His 48.6% field goal percentage and 36.6% from beyond the arc position him as a solid contender to lead the next generation of NBA talent.
However, not everyone is convinced that he should be the first pick, and one of those questioning the idea is none other than Paul George.

Paul George believes Cooper Flagg should not be the number one pick in the Draft

The Philadelphia 76ers star has sparked a debate with comments few expected. During his appearance on the Podcast P with Paul George, he made it clear that, if he had the choice, his pick would be someone else.

“If I had to choose, I’d probably go with Ace Bailey,” said George. “I think Bailey is a more raw talent with a higher ceiling. It’s not that Flagg doesn’t have potential, he does, and it’s incredible, but I feel like Bailey has even more room to grow. Either way, both will be stars, and both will be All-Stars.”
George words have sparked divided reactions. Bailey, who has been shining at Rutgers, has also proven to be an undeniable prospect.

Ace Bailey track record

Averaging 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, his impact on the floor is undeniable. His 46.6% shooting from the field and 36.2% from three further strengthens his case as a viable option for the top spot.
According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Bailey has had some impressive moments in the Big Ten, standing out as a 6’10 forward with an exceptional scoring ability. Furthermore, his growth as a passer and defender suggests his game is reaching a new level.
Will Cooper Flagg be the number one pick as many expect, or will there be a surprise in the Draft? The fight for the 2025 throne is far from decided.
