Dwyane Wade delivered a blunt perspective on the NBA, making it clear that winning a championship goes far beyond talent on the court.

The three-time champion not only highlighted the difficulty of capturing the Larry O’Brien Trophy today, but also revealed how the business side of the sport often outweighs the true ambition of some franchises.

The harsh reality of the NBA according to Dwyane Wade

Unlike in previous eras, the league has seen six different champions in the last six seasons, showing that winning a title is increasingly complex.

For Dwyane Wade, success is not just about skill and effort; it also requires an organization fully committed to victory.

“Not everyone is in the business to win,” Wade stated, emphasizing that some franchises are content with their place in the hierarchy and do not pursue the championship at all costs.

According to Wade, the idea that every team fights for glory is a myth. Some accept not being at the top and avoid taking the risks or extreme measures needed to reach a title.

“Not all players on your team want to win. That’s why many teams cannot achieve that common goal,” explained the former Miami Heat star, highlighting that even the best talents don’t always translate into championships if there isn’t a collective commitment.

Teams that do whatever it takes to win

However, Dwyane Wade also pointed out that when the entire organization shares the same ambition, the results speak for themselves.

He cited the current champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, as an example of a team that understands that winning requires discipline, sacrifice, and synchronization from the front office to the last player on the bench.

“Everyone wants to win. That’s why they play the way they do, and that’s why only a few franchises win consistently,” Wade said.

The former player also recalled historic decisions, such as Golden State signing Kevin Durant in 2016, to illustrate that some franchises are willing to move heaven and earth to truly position themselves to win.

According to Wade, that mindset is the dividing line between teams that barely appear in the playoffs and those that dominate the NBA consistently.
