JuJu Watkins and the unexpected support from a rival
Watkins recently revealed that Bueckers has stayed in constant contact throughout her recovery. “She’s a great person and has been checking in on me every couple of months. Her messages and constant support throughout the whole process have meant a lot,” Watkins said.
Bueckers’ gesture has not only provided emotional comfort but also served as inspiration for JuJu Watkins.
Another great quote from today: JuJu Watkins spoke about how much Paige Buecker’s support has meant during her ACL recovery.
Bueckers missed her entire junior season after an August 2022 ACL tear.

While participating in the U.S. women’s basketball training camp at Duke, alongside stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Kelsey Plum, Watkins takes the opportunity to observe, learn, and absorb every moment—even without being able to play.
This close and consistent contact has strengthened JuJu Watkins determination to come back stronger and fully prepared for her return.
JuJu Watkins recovery and Paige Bueckers experience
Paige Bueckers knows exactly what it means to recover from a serious injury; she herself suffered an ACL tear in 2022 that forced her to miss the entire season at UConn.
Speaking about Watkins, Bueckers emphasized the importance of patience and gratitude at every step of the process. “It’s easy to get tired of the repetitive days, like when you’re just trying to regain strength in your quads. Every day you push yourself is one day closer to getting back to the sport you love,” she said.
JuJu Watkins return will not be rushed. USC and the U.S. team are prioritizing her health and full recovery. Leaving the possibility of Watkins and Bueckers playing together in the FIBA Americas qualifier in March uncertain.
