Caitlin Clark is the WNBA sensation fans were eager to watch at the All-Star Game. However, that excitement turned into disappointment when she suffered a second groin injury, despite resting the entire offseason to fully recover. Due to her condition, Clark didn’t play. Instead, she participated as an assistant coach. For many, it seemed like her first time in a coaching role. But surprisingly, it wasn’t—and Taylor Swift had something to do with it.
Earlier in the season, Clark and Swift attended a Kansas City Chiefs football game together, where Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is a star tight end. It’s widely known that Clark is a passionate football fan and a loyal supporter of the Chiefs.
A special moment on the sidelines
During the game, the two stars were seated side by side, and cameras caught Clark explaining certain plays to Swift. According to Firstsportz, Sue Bird later asked Clark what they were discussing, and her response revealed something unexpected: Clark had been “coaching” Swift on football.

“I love football and I know a lot about it,” Clark said. “So I was telling her why a flag was thrown—but in the best way. I was just explaining things. It was really fun. Spending time with Taylor was great, and then Travis played an amazing game, and the Chiefs won.”
The moment may have seemed casual, but it actually marked Clark’s unofficial debut as a coach—not on the court, but on the football field. And the person she was coaching? One of the most famous women on the planet.
Clark’s deep understanding of the game makes her more than just a fan. She reads plays, anticipates decisions, and clearly knows how to explain strategy. So, while her WNBA coaching debut came at the All-Star Game, her first real coaching experience happened in a stadium filled with NFL fans—and beside Taylor Swift.
