The start of the WNBA regular season has been anything but easy for Caitlin Clark. Injuries have kept her off the court since July 15, and she still hasn’t been cleared to return. Is this hurting the Indiana Fever? It’s possible the team doesn’t feel the same without the support of their star.

Clark’s three-point shot is her strongest weapon. In college, she recorded an impressive 37.7% from beyond the arc. However, things have changed in the WNBA. Despite her impressive rookie season, she dropped to 32.9%, and in 2024, it has fallen further to 27.9%.

This decline clearly impacts the team’s overall stats

According to EssentiallySports, just when fans expected improvement, Clark suffered a new injury during the Fever vs. Connecticut game on July 15. Since then, she has missed six games, including the highly anticipated WNBA All-Star Game.

Without her, the team’s three-point shooting has declined. The Indiana Fever now rank sixth in the league in three-pointers, trailing behind the Liberty, Lynx, Dream, Valkyries, Mercury, and Sparks.

Much of this drop relates directly to Clark’s absence. She broke records in her rookie season, but has struggled this year, averaging just 2.2 three-pointers per game, compared to 3.1 last season. So far, she has made 29 of 104 attempts.

Can she bounce back once she returns? Most likely, yes. Clark is known for her resilience. She’s a player who comes back stronger and shines in spectacular fashion. That’s what her fans and teammates are counting on.

Right now, Kelsey Mitchell leads the team with 2.4 three-pointers per game. The gap isn’t huge, but Clark has fallen behind her. While the injury doesn’t seem severe, it’s persistent, and that worries her coaches and teammates like Sophie Cunningham.

“She’s not in pain all the time, but when she tweaks it, you’re looking at another issue,” Cunningham said on the Show Me Something podcast.

Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever continue fighting to stay in playoff position, hoping for Clark’s return as their most efficient weapon.
