Caitlin Clark’s bold decision
Caitlin Clark is one of the most promising figures in women’s basketball. Last year, Time magazine named her the Athlete of 2024. She was also the first overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, giving her significant visibility in women’s basketball. It made perfect sense for the NBA to choose her for this promotion.
However, Caitlin Clark declined the offer. Unlike Sabrina Ionescu, who competed against Stephen Curry last year, Clark turned down the opportunity to participate in the contest, despite being known for her three-point shooting prowess.
Why? She expressed a preference to compete in a WNBA three-point contest first before participating in an NBA one. Her decision appears to be aimed at promoting women’s basketball in a different way.
At least, that’s what Los Angeles Sparks player Cameron Brink believes. During her appearance on the digital show “Straight to Cam,” Brink supported Clark’s choice not to participate in the NBA contest, stating she believes Clark made the right call.
Girl Power: Cameron Brink backs Caitlin Clark
In the interview, Brink mentioned she thinks it’s great for Caitlin Clark and recalled the intense duel between Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry.

“There was a lot of debate around that. I remember Sabrina is one of the best shooters I’ve been around. So I wasn’t surprised she got that close.”
Cameron Brink added that there are many critiques and comparisons between women’s and men’s games. Therefore, she doesn’t see it as a good idea for Caitlin Clark to face that exposure. She even suggested that instead of this invitation, an NBA player could join the WNBA contest.
Caitlin Clark focused on the Fever
There are some who criticize Caitlin Clark’s decision, but Brink commented that she doesn’t need the extra publicity from the All-Star Game. She is one of the best in the league and is focused on her upcoming season.
Although we won’t see number 22 of the Fever during the All-Star Weekend (February 14-16), we will continue to enjoy her three-pointers in the WNBA.
