Caitlin Clark’s groin injury has already taken a heavy toll. Because she has missed most of her second WNBA season, she just lost one of the milestones she had set in the league.

Although she still has a bright future as one of the best players in the WNBA. Clark hasn’t been in the best position in 2025. Despite being one of the stars of the Indiana Fever, sitting on the bench during recovery has cost her valuable time.

According to Athlonsports, Clark has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Alongside her, other major players from the franchise also suffered injuries, including Sophie Cunningham, Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Chloe Bibby.

Records that didn’t last long

With Clark absent from the court, Phoenix Mercury’s star Alyssa Thomas took the spotlight. In fact, she just surpassed Clark, who in 2024 and early 2025 had been considered the league’s top playmaker.

Recently, reports confirmed that Thomas officially broke Clark’s single-season assist record. Thomas now has 342 assists, while Clark’s record stood at 337.

The difference is that Clark achieved her mark in a 40-game season, while Thomas reached hers in Phoenix’s 42nd game, as the WNBA extended its regular season to 44 games.

Before the injury, Clark averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game. Now, Thomas has moved past her with 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game.
