According to a Los Angeles Lakers legend, while Caitlin Clark struggles with injuries and wants to bounce back, the WNBA keeps losing big. Clark’s second season with the Indiana Fever has been tough. But is there something deeper affecting her?

Clark became a rising star who gained massive popularity during her NCAA days. When the Fever signed her in 2024, fans believed she could deliver a championship. However, her limited presence on the court has drastically changed the outlook.

A direct impact on the WNBA

According to Essentiallysports, former LA Clippers player Olden Polynice appeared on Monday’s episode of Byron Scott’s Fast Break. They analyzed how much Caitlin Clark impacts the women’s professional basketball league.

Polynice said: “If she’s not on the court, the product isn’t as good. No doubt about it. You won’t get as many eyes on the game. She’s must-watch TV when she plays. But if she doesn’t, many Caitlin Clark fans will tune out.”

That statement has data behind it. In June, the New York Post reported: “The Fever’s nationally televised games dropped by 53%, averaging 1,810,000 viewers with Clark compared to only 847,000 without her.”

In 2024, most arenas filled up because fans wanted to see Clark. But now, the WNBA faces a decline, as cameras showed empty seats during Game 1 against the Atlanta Dream.

This reality makes Clark an essential piece the league must protect. She not only brings fans but also major sponsorships for players. Still, many analysts argue that the WNBA has not supported her enough. Now, fans expect her to return soon and shine the way only she can.
