Aari McDonald, one of the most impactful players for the Indiana Fever. Shared an update on her physical recovery after the foot injury that ended her 2025 WNBA season. The 1.68-meter guard suffered a fracture in her right foot in August, cutting short one of the best stretches of her career.
McDonald joined the Fever in June under a hardship contract amid the team’s injury crisis. Her strong performance quickly earned her a permanent spot through the end of the season. However, her campaign was abruptly interrupted, and she joined the injured list alongside Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Chloe Bibby.
A positive recovery process
According to Athlon Sports, on Tuesday the former Arizona star received a special honor from her alma mater. The university announced it will celebrate McDonald’s collegiate career on November 21, during the matchup against Northern Arizona. McDonald left a lasting legacy with the Wildcats, averaging 21.9 points per game and setting school records for most points in a single game (44) and most points in a season (890).

On Friday, McDonald posted a video from the gym, shooting baskets with visible enthusiasm. She accompanied the clip with a motivational caption that reflects her determined attitude. Though still in recovery, her progress is evident, and her return to competition appears increasingly close.
McDonald plans to make her official comeback in January as part of the Unrivaled 3-on-3 league, joining the Breeze BC team, one of the league’s new expansion squads. She will share the court with Paige Bueckers, Cameron Brink, Kate Martin, Rickea Jackson, and Dominique Mallonga, all notable WNBA talents.
In her last season with Indiana, McDonald averaged 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. Her energy, defense, and leadership were vital for the Fever’s system. Her return is expected to strengthen a roster seeking greater consistency heading into the 2026 campaign.
