Patrick Mahomes, star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, is a passionate basketball fan. As a dedicated supporter of the Dallas Mavericks, he often attends their games throughout the year. Recently, he grabbed attention by sending a message to Mavericks’ rising star Cooper Flagg.
While speaking on “Up & Adams with Kay Adams”, Mahomes shared his thoughts on the Mavericks’ future, highlighting their decision to draft Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick after his stellar season at Duke. He also spoke about his expectations for his favorite basketball team.
What does Mahomes think about the Mavericks?
“I’m kind of a low-key Duke fan… I grew up watching JJ Redick, Sheldon Williams… but obviously now I’m a Texas Tech fan,” Mahomes said. “So I watched Cooper Flagg last year. Great player, and I was really excited when he joined the Mavs.”
He added, “Once they recover, they’ll have just as much of a shot as anyone to take home the championship… I still love my guy Luka, no matter what. I’ll always support him, but my Mavs have a chance now—we’ve got hope again in Dallas.”
Cooper Flagg’s standout performances on the AAU circuit quickly drew attention from youth basketball experts. He then starred at Montverde Academy during high school before committing to Duke, where he became their top player, leading the team to 35 wins.
The Mavericks selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. Now, Flagg competes alongside top NBA stars, offering him the perfect environment to grow and continue building his promising professional career.
