Minnesota Lynx, with a 17-2 record, currently lead the WNBA and are the best team of the season. Their MVP captain, Napheesa Collier, is a clear favorite. On July 19, the WNBA All-Star Game will take place, and Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier will draft their teams live on ESPN’s WNBA Countdown.

Among the All-Star selections, three rookies stand out: Paige Bueckers, named as a starter, and Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen as reserves. In fact, Paige Bueckers just became the rookie with the most fan votes in WNBA history. Her rapid rise is due to her impressive development across 14 games with the Wings.

Bueckers vs. Taurasi?

Paige Bueckers’ outstanding performance this season has sparked comparisons to Diana Taurasi, one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Both were top draft picks, played under Geno Auriemma, and won national championships with UConn.

However, many believe it’s too early for such comparisons, given that Taurasi has played professionally for 20 seasons. Alyssa Thomas of the Mercury commented: “I don’t like comparing players. Everyone brings their own style… she (Bueckers) plays with so much poise, calm, and knows how to get to her spots.”

Paige Bueckers addressed the comparisons herself, saying that what matters most is “running my own race, not a race of comparison.” Her response shows remarkable maturity and confidence, reminding us that comparisons often steal joy.

The upcoming All-Star Game could bring even more excitement. We might see Bueckers and Caitlin Clark playing on the same team. There’s also a chance that Angel Reese joins them, forming an unstoppable trio of rising stars and delivering a spectacular show for WNBA fans.

These three players faced each other in the NCAA since 2020, but the professional stage brings a new dynamic. Will we see them team up? Nothing is certain, but the chances are very high.
