Gracie Hunt, heiress to the Kansas City Chiefs family, expressed deep sadness and shared a powerful reflection on God after losing a young relative in the devastating floods that struck Central Texas. She showed great empathy for others who are facing the same heartbreaking situation.
On July 4, 9-year-old Janie Hunt was among the many victims of a deadly natural disaster. She was attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp, when the nearby river rose rapidly and swept away the lives of children and adults at the site.
Gracie opened up on Instagram, writing: “My heart hurts.” She also posed difficult questions about her Christian faith, saying:
“Some days, it’s hard to understand how the world can hold such beauty and such pain. How can the same God who made the stars and set the planets in motion allow such deep suffering?”

Known for publicly expressing her Christian beliefs and engaging in charitable work, Hunt turned to the Bible for comfort. She read from Romans 8 and 2 Peter 3:13, verses that speak of hope and new beginnings.
She continued: “The truth is, we live in a broken world, one that groans for redemption. Following Jesus doesn’t mean we’re spared from pain, but it means we never face it alone.”
She concluded her tribute with a message of hope:
“Even in the darkest valleys, we cling to the hope that this is not the end of the story.”
The Hunt family mourns together
Gracie was not the only one to share her sorrow publicly. Her mother, Tavia Hunt, also posted about the tragedy, mourning the loss of “a precious Hunt cousin” and remembering Janie alongside her friends. She wrote:
“Our hearts are broken by the devastation of the floods in Wimberley and the tragic loss of so many lives… Jesus, draw near.”
The floods in Texas over the holiday weekend have become one of the deadliest natural disasters in recent U.S. history, with more than 100 lives lost across six counties. The entire nation mourns alongside the grieving families.
