The Kansas City Chiefs needed a strong response after two consecutive losses. Pressure kept rising, and the visit to the Colts promised a demanding matchup. That prediction turned out correct. Indianapolis controlled the scoreboard for most of the game. However, Kansas City responded in time and rallied in the final minutes of regulation. Kareem Hunt cut the deficit with a touchdown, and Harrison Butker tied the game with a decisive field goal. The team forced overtime, and Butker sealed the victory with a 27-yard kick.
While Patrick Mahomes led an offense that looked irregular but effective, Rashee Rice stood out with 141 yards on eight receptions. Travis Kelce, however, delivered a quieter performance. He recorded only four catches for 43 yards in a game where he couldn’t create separation. Even so, his priority has always been winning, especially in a season where the Chiefs are searching for consistency after several offensive ups and downs.
Statistics don’t shake the veteran
According to Athlonsports, the issue surfaced when revising the record books. Despite the win, Kelce dropped one spot in a major statistical list. In the Rams’ victory over the Buccaneers, Davante Adams recorded five receptions for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers allowed him to overtake Kelce in a key milestone. “Wide receiver Davante Adams passed Travis Kelce (1,004) for the fourth-most receptions in a player’s first 175 regular-season games,” the Rams announced on X.

Adams’ rise doesn’t surprise anyone. The Packers drafted him in 2014, and he produced three seasons with more than 100 receptions before his trade to the Raiders. He now plays his first year with the Rams after signing a two-year deal in the preseason. Statistical consistency has defined his entire career.
Travis Kelce, meanwhile, keeps adding milestones. He recently broke the Kansas City franchise record for touchdowns, a feat that reflects his enormous impact. His drop on this list doesn’t change his legacy, but it does highlight the fierce competition among elite receivers and tight ends in the NFL.
As the Chiefs celebrated their overtime win, Kelce continued chasing records. His season still offers opportunities for standout performances. And although Adams pulled ahead this week, the race for historical numbers is far from over.
