Travis Kelce’s role in the Chiefs Could Change for the 2025 season

For Kansas City Chiefs fans, it was fantastic to learn that their star tight end, Travis Kelce, would be back for another season. However, it seems that this decision to push retirement aside has something to do with money.

It was Travis Kelce‘s brother, Jason, who took the opportunity to ask him on the show New Heights about the reasons behind his return. There, the player felt free to share the reasons that led him to rethink his retirement this year.

The pressure on Travis Kelce

According to what Travis Kelce told his brother, this decision was partly motivated by money. The Chiefs‘ tight end admitted that the financial pressure of $19 million weighed heavily on his decision to return for another season.

After days and days of speculation about what Travis Kelce would do, the player finally considered his finances and set aside retirement. It seems that Taylor Swift’s boyfriend will have an impact on the Chiefs‘ salary cap of over $19 million.

However, it’s not all about money. Travis Kelce also has an overwhelming passion for football. Some say that the player could even earn much more off the field.

At 35 years old, Travis Kelce is one of the most notable figures in the NFL. Additionally, his relationship with America’s sweetheart has further elevated his popularity. His projects are on the rise, such as the FX show Grotesquerie. He even landed a role in the film Happy Gilmore 2.

Compelling reasons

With a pretty tight schedule off the field, Travis Kelce is now preparing to start the final season of his two-year, $34 million contract. When his brother asked, “Why are you playing another season?” Travis took a few seconds. He laughed and admitted that finances played a role in his decision-making process.

However, it wasn’t the only thing on his mind. “That was something I had to juggle,” admitted Travis. “The most important thing is that I love playing football. I love playing. I still feel like I can play at a high level and possibly at a higher level than last year,” Travis Kelce said.

Furthermore, it seems that Travis Kelce wants to leave the NFL on a high note, not having lost the Super Bowl final to Philadelphia. “I was left with a bad taste in my mouth about how I ended the year and how well I was playing,” he said.

Reasons for his retirement

Travis Kelce‘s career with the Chiefs has been impressive. However, it was at the end of 2024 when speculation about his retirement began. At the time, his performance slowed compared to his usual legendary standards. Additionally, the tabloid press also rumored that he wanted to spend more time with his girlfriend Taylor Swift.

However, all of this will have to wait because it’s now a fact that Travis Kelce is ready for another season with the Chiefs. “I’ll try to get into the best shape. I’ve ever been in during the preseason and get back to the top. I can’t go out like this!” he concluded.
