Tom Brady doesn’t need to be on the field to keep shaping the NFL narrative. The seven-time Super Bowl champion, now a media analyst and minority owner of the Raiders, stirred the pot again with a bold statement that echoed loudly ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos matchup. “Defense is back, baby.” And he wasn’t just talking. Brady praised Denver’s defensive resurgence and made it clear that if they manage to disrupt Patrick Mahomes, the game could swing in favor of the home team.

According to the report published by Marca, Tom Brady broke down both teams’ current form in his weekly Power Rankings. The Broncos arrive with an 8-2 record and a defense that’s regaining its identity under Sean Payton. On the other hand, the Chiefs are navigating a shaky season, sitting at 5-4, with an offense that—despite Mahomes at the helm—has shown cracks in key moments. Brady didn’t hide his concern about Kansas City’s lack of offensive rhythm, though he acknowledged they come into this game rested after their bye week.

Tough terrain for the Chiefs

The game will be played at Empower Field at Mile High, a venue that has historically been a tough place for Kansas City. Tom Brady pointed out that if the Chiefs’ receivers win their one-on-one matchups and the defense holds its ground, they could regain control. But he warned that Denver has a real chance to make a statement at home, especially if they manage to pressure Mahomes early.

It’s also worth noting that the Broncos recently defeated the Raiders, the team with which Tom Brady is financially tied. Although the win was narrow (10-7), the former quarterback admitted it wasn’t Denver’s best performance. Still, it was enough to extend their winning streak and solidify their spot in the AFC West.

The Broncos could pull off an upset

Tom Brady also took the opportunity to highlight Sean Payton’s work. The head coach has rebuilt a defense that was among the league’s weakest in 2024. Now, that unit is central to the Broncos’ resurgence, and Brady didn’t hesitate to call it a key factor in the upcoming clash with Patrick Mahomes.

With the game set for Sunday night, all eyes will be on whether Tom Brady’s warning holds true. Is the defense really back?. Can Denver shut down Mahomes? One thing’s for sure—when Brady speaks, the NFL listens.
