The NFL did not fine Trey Hendrickson after his roughness penalty against the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback. The player did not take the league’s decision too seriously, as he mocked the referees with a crying gesture right after learning the verdict.
The Bengals’ defensive end has rarely been fined since joining the NFL. That made the ruling a relief for him, as he avoided paying again. Previously, Hendrickson has been fined four times for a total of $72,883.
A move that could have cost thousands
According to Essentiallysports, reporter Jay Morrison announced the NFL’s decision on X: “The Bengals’ defensive end, Trey Hendrickson, was not fined for his roughing-the-passer penalty in Cleveland. The Browns’ wide receiver, Jerry Jeudy, was fined $11,593 for taunting in the first quarter.”

The officials penalized Hendrickson in the second quarter. The All-Pro DE slipped past rookie Dylan Sampson’s block, fought Jack Conklin, and reached Joe Flacco. As Flacco threw to Sampson, Hendrickson’s left hand grazed the quarterback’s facemask. Referees called it roughing the passer, but later reviews confirmed the play did not merit a fine.
On the other hand, Jerry Jeudy did receive the night’s only monetary fine. He taunted late in the first quarter, just seconds before Hendrickson’s penalty. The league fined Jeudy $11,593 for the infraction.
