The Minnesota Vikings defended Isaiah Rodgers. On Monday, the franchise released a statement rejecting the racist comments aimed at their cornerback. The player received racist attacks after the team’s 28-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in Week 7 of the NFL.

The team’s front office refused to ignore the incident. Published a statement on social media addressed to the users who insulted the player.

Total rejection of the fans’ actions

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the Vikings’ statement read: “We are outraged by the racial slurs directed at Isaiah Rodgers after yesterday’s game. As we have said before, there is no place for racist words or actions in sports or in society.”

The statement continued: “We stand with Isaiah and all players who, unfortunately, experience this ignorant and prejudiced behavior far too often. We ask our fans to continue fighting to eradicate racism.”

Several fans insulted 27-year-old Rodgers, blaming him for two key plays that influenced the team’s defeat. However, the comments escalated when they attacked him over the color of his skin.

Other fans also stepped in to defend the player, and Rodgers responded through his X account: “Racism is real. Stick to football; stand tall supporting us or stay silent,” he wrote.

Isaiah Rodgers joined the team in March 2024, signing a two-year, 15-million-dollar contract. He began his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
