Scott Swift, Taylor Swift’s father, revealed how he found out about Travis Kelce’s intention to propose to the pop star. Apparently, the Chiefs tight end asked his future father-in-law for permission.
Ed Kelce, Travis’s father, appeared Tuesday on “The Jimmy & Nath Show with Emma.” He was present when his son spoke with Scott Swift about a possible engagement.
There is a good relationship between the Kelce and Swift families
According to the New York Post, Ed Kelce confirmed that Scott encouraged Travis to make the proposal. “It’s kind of funny, I was talking with Scott Swift and Travis went to ask for his blessing… and this was probably a month ago,” Ed said.
“Scott said: ‘Oh, come on, when are you going to do this?’ Travis had these plans to do it before flying to Brazil, with a big production somewhere. But you know, he wanted it to be special… And I told him the same thing Scott told him: ‘Asking her is what makes it special. Not the place. You could do it on the side of the road.’ And Scott added: ‘Just do it. Don’t worry about a special date. You’re ready. You have the ring. Go do it.’”
But Travis Kelce fulfilled his wish and proposed to Taylor Swift in a very special place. The three-time Super Bowl champion got down on one knee in a beautiful flower garden to make the proposal.
Ed Kelce explained that Travis didn’t approach him for advice. However, he showed him a photo of the engagement ring. “I think it’s wonderful… They’re two young people, madly in love, and I’ve never seen them this happy. He didn’t come to me for guidance—I went to him to tell him to just do it.”
The Kelce-Swift couple, highly publicized since they started dating in 2023, announced their engagement Tuesday on a joint Instagram account. The caption read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
