The Dallas Cowboys’ 31–28 win over the Chiefs delivered several storylines, and one of them involved George Pickens’ contract status. CEO Stephen Jones gave his most direct comments on the issue, and his words reinforced the receiver’s importance in the team’s long-term plans.

Jones answered clearly when asked whether Dallas intends to sign an extension. “Anyone who watches him play knows what Jerry (Jones) and I want, which is for them to sign him.” He stated that Pickens has been an impressive piece and emphasized that the receiver does everything well and fits the team’s future.

The CEO backs an extension that seems inevitable

According to Essentiallysports, the executive also dismissed any concerns about CeeDee Lamb. “No one in our organization ever doubted CeeDee Lamb.” He stressed that Pickens is not competing with him, since both are offensive complements who make life difficult for opposing defenses. Jones insisted on keeping that duo together for many years.

The CEO also praised tight end Jake Ferguson and running back Javonte Williams, who has delivered standout performances. He even highlighted that Dak Prescott is having a special season. The quarterback has thrown 25 touchdown passes in 12 games and became the fifth QB in team history to reach that mark since 1970. “He is having one of the best years he has ever had as a professional,” Jones said.

Pickens’ numbers strengthen his case for an extension. He is one of the few players since 1970 to record 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns in his first twelve games with the team. In Cowboys history, only four players have reached that mark at the same point in the season. Pickens is close to the pace Lamb set in 2023.

The receiver’s future appears well-positioned, and his production supports that trajectory. Jones’ comments reinforce his rising value, but one concern remains: his health raises questions, which adds complexity to the process. Dallas must evaluate every factor before finalizing an extension.

Pickens has become a central figure, and the offense increasingly relies on his impact. His contract situation will shape the coming months. Jones made his intentions clear. Now the team must proceed carefully.
