Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently made a statement that sparked a wave of criticism. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith didn’t let it slide and issued a sharp remark about the player.

Before the preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Prescott sent a message to Stan Kroenke, the Rams’ owner and business magnate. Prescott claimed they would face each other in the NFC Championship Game in January. That meant he was aiming to qualify for the postseason as the No. 1 seed or win both playoff games.

A harsh blow to Prescott’s credibility

According to Firstsportz, Prescott’s statement made waves among NFL commentators, critics, and fans. One comment that stood out came from Stephen A. Smith, analyst for ESPN’s First Take.

Smith said Rams owner Kroenke and others probably laughed at Dak claim, given that the Rams won a Super Bowl shortly after Prescott became the Cowboys’ starting quarterback.

“You look at Patrick Mahomes, right? He has 17 playoff wins. Do you know his average is around $10.7 million per playoff win? Prescott ranks third all-time—I mean, Kirk Cousins and Deshaun Watson are ahead of him—but Prescott averages $124.3 million for just two playoff wins… So he makes sure to get his money. He makes sure to get the headlines… He just makes sure to do everything except win once the postseason comes around. That’s what he does,” Smith said.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys have made significant moves for the upcoming NFL season, many believe Prescott’s claim is unrealistic—especially with the uncertainty surrounding Micah Parsons’ future on the team. Now, it all depends on what new head coach Brian Schottenheimer decides moving forward.
