In Cleveland, the clock keeps ticking—but not for everyone. While the Browns pile up losses and penalties, Shedeur Sanders—the rookie quarterback once projected as a first-round pick—has been waiting over 50 days for his shot. And it’s not like the team is overflowing with answers. Meanwhile, Dillon Gabriel, another rookie who has seen the field, has delivered two performances that analysts are calling borderline catastrophic.

Last Sunday, Dillon Gabriel threw 52 passes in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Aaron Rodgers. But quantity didn’t equal quality. What he left behind was a tape that former quarterback Chase Daniel described as “the worst offensive film I’ve ever seen,” according to reporting from TheSportsRush. Daniel didn’t hold back. He slammed Gabriel’s execution, his inability to establish rhythm, and his poor decision-making throughout the game.

Sanders still waiting for his chance

While Dillon Gabriel stumbles, Shedeur Sanders remains in limbo. Since his last preseason appearance, he hasn’t taken a single snap. Fans—and some analysts—are asking what more needs to happen for the former Colorado Buffalo to get at least one offensive series. One thing is clear: the Browns aren’t winning. With a 1-5 record, the lowest scoring average in the NFL, and 43 penalties already, the team seems more committed to resisting change than finding solutions.

The situation becomes even more puzzling when viewed through the lens of the 2025 NFL Draft. Shedeur Sanders, son of Deion Sanders, entered the league with high expectations and a media profile that made him one of the most compelling prospects in his class. His draft-day slide was surprising, but not fatal. What does seem final—for now—is the coaching staff’s unwillingness to give him a chance.

The calendar keeps moving

One of the big questions is whether Shedeur Sanders is the answer the Browns are looking for. Truth is, no one knows. But what seems increasingly obvious is that Dillon Gabriel isn’t, at least judging by his first two outings. And if the Browns are content to keep losing without testing alternatives, the issue goes beyond talent—it’s about vision.

In the middle of this mess, Shedeur Sanders’ supporters are still holding out hope. As for Browns fans… well, they might want to start circling dates on next year’s draft calendar. Because if this season has made anything clear, it’s that this team needs more than patience—it needs bold decisions.
