Recently, Shane Gillis took a shot at Shedeur Sanders during the ESPY Awards, mocking his “legacy” at Colorado. Contrary to what many expected, Sanders didn’t stay silent in the face of such a humiliating moment. However, he responded with elegance and composure, earning the admiration of his fans and followers.

Instead of giving interviews or posting tweets, Sanders took to his social media to reply. In doing so, he set an example and showed his true character.

According to EssentiallySports, Shedeur Sanders posted a video on Instagram, where he can be seen training intensely. The production is high quality and clearly showcases his effort and dedication. In a whisper-like voiceover, the NFL player says:
“No excuses. Putting in the work. Doing what I have to do. About to be time to be legendary. When it’s that time.”

The clip shows Sanders running, working out, and practicing football. He posted it the day after Gillis made his comments at the ESPYs. The caption on the video read: “No excuses.” That simple yet powerful statement was his clever response to Gillis’ criticism and mockery.

The comment that upset Sanders

The remark that upset the Cleveland Browns quarterback was: “Shedeur Sanders had his jersey number retired at Colorado this year… People say it’s nepotism… It’s not. He went 13-12 in his career and almost won the Alamo Bowl. Definitely not nepotism?”

That statement was completely out of line, especially considering Sanders’ performance at Colorado.
Last year, he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also led the Big 12 in both categories and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. On top of that, he won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. So, was that public humiliation really fair?
Clearly, Gillis’ comment was unnecessary and disrespectful at the ESPYs.
