Reports revealed that Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens offered Shedeur Sanders a spot before the Cleveland Browns drafted him. However, the son of coach Prime turned down both offers, and Crowder backed that decision.
Contrary to expectations, the Browns won only four games in the regular season, while Baltimore and Philly reached the same number of victories in just one month. That fact has led some of Sanders’ fans to question why he rejected those franchises.
A valuable resource for the Browns
According to The Sports Rush, Sanders felt those teams didn’t need him. His father, Deion Sanders, confirmed that idea, explaining that Shedeur didn’t want to sit behind star quarterbacks. “How the hell can anyone blame him for saying or thinking, ‘Why the hell would I back up Lamar [Jackson] for 10 more years?’” Coach Prime said.
“Can we just go back in society where hard work matters and humility’s not uncool?”

No matter the team, Shedeur Sanders refused to compete for a backup role. Instead, he believed the Browns could give him a chance to start, which mattered most to the 23-year-old quarterback. Both his father and Crowder agreed.
Crowder emphasized on his podcast: “Why would you back up a Hall of Famer? Lamar Jackson is about to be a Hall of Famer. He’s an MVP. He’ll win multiple MVPs. He’s still young.”
“Shedeur couldn’t start in Baltimore. I’ve heard the backlash and everything, but he can beat Dillon Gabriel. He can beat Joe Flacco. He won’t beat Lamar Jackson. Why would you go there just to sit behind Lamar Jackson for four years?” the former linebacker said.
Even though things haven’t gone well for Sanders in Cleveland, Crowder insists his decision was the right one. The possibility of a change in the Browns’ lineup has even grown after their 0-3 start in the 2025 season, creating a strong opportunity for the former Colorado Buffaloes star.
