There’s a lot happening in Kansas City. Some folks worry about the weather. Others? About the belly of Patrick Mahomes. Yes, the Chiefs quarterback with three Super Bowl rings and two MVP awards. Mahomes faced sharp remarks from host Kevin Kietzman, who labeled his relaxed Fourth of July boat look as “a disgrace.” Mahomes didn’t look like the chiseled NFL prototype—and that, apparently, was enough to stir debate.

There’s this idea, maybe a bit romanticized, that quarterbacks need sculpted torsos to throw 40-yard bombs. But nothing escapes social media, and aesthetics have a way of clouding judgment. Patrick Mahomes, once again, finds himself in the crosshairs.

Patrick Mahomes under the microscope

According to the New York Post, Kietzman and others took aim at Patrick Mahomes’ so-called “dad bod.” But they’re skipping the only stat that matters: performance. Because what Mahomes does better than most is turn hard games into masterclasses in offensive survival.

After a tough loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX—where Patrick Mahomes threw two picks—he promised a revenge tour. Does that include showing off washboard abs? Not really. It means grinding in the offseason, building chemistry with the team, and sharpening his mechanics. And by all accounts, Mahomes is doing exactly that.

It’s about results, not selfies

In fact, Patrick Mahomes’ personal trainer, Bobby Stroupe, fired back at Kietzman, defending the quarterback’s work ethic. He pointed out that reaction time, durability, and strength aren’t measured in Instagram likes. “It’s not about looks—it’s about output,” Stroupe said in a post that has since been deleted.

Patrick Mahomes, true to himself, didn’t take the jabs too seriously. Back in January 2024, after celebrating shirtless following the AFC Championship win, he responded to similar comments with the hashtag #DadBodSZN. Because Mahomes can joke—but he can also throw for over 32,000 yards, lead historic offenses, and make it all look effortless.

Now Patrick Mahomes is prepping for his ninth NFL season with a team still built around his talent and leadership. And while some criticize his body, Patrick Mahomes is focused on maintaining his goal, which is to lead Kansas City to the Super Bowl to win another ring.
