Micah Parsons selected his jersey number for the Packers. He ran a poll in Green Bay because he didn’t know whether to pick 0 or 1. He finally decided to wear No. 1, according to the franchise’s official website.

The last person to wear that number for the team was founder Earl “Curly” Lambeau. In fact, he was the only one who ever wore it, which makes this choice a historic moment for the Packers.

A proud moment for Parsons

According to Essentiallysports, the NFL team announced on Instagram: “First No. 1 in GB in 99 years.” The post instantly sparked a wave of reactions from fans and professional athletes from other leagues like the NBA.

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis reacted, writing: “When you wake up and realize it wasn’t a dream! 🧀🧀🧀 @_micahparsons11”.

It took almost 100 years for that number to return to the Packers. With this, Parsons closes a century and opens a new chapter for the franchise. Lambeau last wore it in 1926. Since then, several numbers have been retired, such as No. 3 for Tony Canadeo, No. 4 for Brett Favre, No. 14 for Don Hutson, No. 15 for Bart Starr, and No. 66 for Ray Nitschke.

Parsons, however, is not the only one making history. Matthew Golden requested No. 0 after transferring from Houston to Texas and then to the Packers following a successful 2024 season.

He recorded 58 receptions, 987 yards, and nine touchdowns, and then ran a 4.29 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine in the first round. Golden now looks set to make a difference and also start a new era for the Green Bay Packers.
